Loaded Handgun Seized At State College Regional Airport

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers at State College Regional Airport seized a loaded 9mm handgun on Monday, September 16, according to a release. The firearm was loaded with nine bullets, with one in the chamber.

A TSA X-ray picked up the weapon as the firearm’s owner, hailing from Drums, Pennsylvania, passed through security. The man was allowed to return the weapon to his car, though he now faces civil penalties, reaching a possible $15,000.

Passengers are allowed to travel with firearms in checked baggage if they are unloaded and packed in a hard-sided locked case, which must be declared at the airline check-in counter.
