Brainstorming Penn State-Themed Team-Building Exercises

Are you having trouble bonding with your pals? Do you not know what to do with your friends other than sit on your phones together? Don’t worry, we got you covered.

We decided to brainstorm some Penn State-themed team-building exercises for you and your Nittany Lion friends to try. Whether you’re looking to strengthen connections with your THON committee, project group, club, or just need a fun way to spice up a pre-game, these activities will definitely get things going.

So without further ado, let’s get to bonding folks.

Nittany, Nittany, Lion

Duck, duck, goose with a twist. This take on a classic childhood game is guaranteed to bring out your inner lion. Have your buddies form a circle with one person taking the role of the lion. The lion will go around the circle and tap each person on the head until they pick their lion cub. After being chosen, the lion cub will chase the lion around the circle. To add more excitement, after being tagged, both participants are required to run on all fours and do their best Nittany Lion roar until they get back to their seat.

Franklin Says

Simon who? Never heard of him.

In this game, you’ll follow the lead of the man himself: James Franklin. When Franklin says, “Touch your toes,” you better reach for those piggies. If Franklin says, “Run the Oklahoma drill,” you better put your helmet on. But be careful, if Franklin doesn’t say it, you’re out! Franklin says, “Play Franklin says.”

Tailgate Trivia

Think you’re the ultimate tailgater? It’s time to lock in and prove it.

This game is the supreme test for the grittiest tailgaters. Separate into teams and quiz each other on Penn State football history and game day traditions.

Kernkraft Chairs

Musical chairs just got an upgrade. In Kernkraft Chairs, Zombie Nation brings the heat as you and your friends battle it out for a seat. The rules are the same, but the energy? Unmatched. As the famous Penn State anthem plays, players will compete for a seat. The last person standing will be the natty daddy of Kernkraft chairs.

Pattee-Paterno Escape Room

Have y’all ever gotten lost in the stacks? Take your team into the unknown of Penn State’s libraries and use your best navigation skills to make your escape. Be careful though, rumor has it Betsy Aardsma’s ghost will give you some challenges.

Just Line Dance

Instead of playing the traditional video game Just Dance, you and your friends can try busting a move to the THON line dances. With years of dances documented, it’s the perfect way to get some exercise while you strengthen your relationships!
