[Photo Story] Penn State vs. Illinois

White Out…energy.

Then-No. 9 Penn State football secured a 21-7 victory over then-No. 19 Illinois on Saturday night while playing in front of a packed Beaver Stadium and an unofficial White Out crowd.

As always, our photographers were on the field and around Beaver Stadium to capture the sights of the win and the environment.

A sea of white showed up loud and proud to support the Nittany Lions as the buses arrived.

Penn State took the field for warmups while fans piled into Beaver Stadium.

“Kernkraft 400” blared through the stadium as the Nittany Lions ran onto the field before kickoff. Even though it wasn’t an official White Out, the atmosphere remained the same. Goosebumps all around.

Illinois scored first, but Penn State came back on the next drive as Tyler Warren took the snap to dive into the end zone and tie the game 7-7.

Death, taxes, and Sander Sahaydak missed field goals. The kicker missed a 40-yard field goal in the second quarter.

Penn State’s defense stayed on its toes to hold the Fighting Illini to only seven points to end the half.

As the sky grew darker, the unofficial White Out looked even better than imagined.

In the third quarter, Nick Singleton sprinted to the outside and into the end zone, extending the lead to 14-7. The running back tallied 94 yards with 16 total carries.

The Nittany Lions’ defense was on fire. Zane Durant snuck up and sacked Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer for a loss of seven yards. Altmeyer was then taken down by Jaylen Reed and Tony Rojas, shutting down Illinois’ momentum.

After another Sahaydak missed field goal, Illinois got the ball back until a 4th-and-6, when A.J. Harris intercepted Altmyer’s pass at the 41-yard line.

Katron Allen put the game away with a touchdown, boosting Penn State’s lead to 21-7 with just 1:55 left in the game.

Sweet victory. Penn State won under the lights in the unofficial White Out game.

We’ll be back next Saturday when Penn State will face UCLA for FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff in Beaver Stadium.
