Abdul Carter Named Bednarik & Nagurski National Player Of The Week

The awards keep on coming for Penn State football defensive end Abdul Carter.

Carter was named the National Player of the Week for both the Chuch Bednarik Award and Bronko Nagurski Trophy after his performance against Illinois. Both awards recognize the top defensive players in college football.

During Penn State’s 21-7 win over Illinois, Carter recorded seven tackles, including four tackles for loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble. His forced fumble came at a critical point in the game during the fourth quarter as it allowed the Nittany Lions to secure the win over the Fighting Illini.

Carter has registered 19 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two passes defended, and one forced fumble in four games so far this season.

Carter was also recognized on Monday afternoon for two awards as the Reese’s Senior Bowl named him Co-Defensive Player of the Week and the Big Ten named him the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
