[Photo Story] Pro-Palestine Protesters March Through Downtown State College

On Monday, Penn State students and community members met at the Allen Street Gates on the one-year anniversary of the war in Gaza beginning to protest Israeli actions in Palestine.

The protest was organized in collaboration between the People’s Defense Front, the Student Committee for Defense and Solidarity, and Students for Justice in Palestine. The event kicked off at 5:30 p.m. and concluded at 7:30 p.m. with no incidents of violence.

Our photographers were on the scene to capture the event from beginning to end as it unfolded downtown.

The event started at the Allen Street Gates, where various people spoke on the actions of the Israeli government in Gaza and what they saw as Penn State’s involvement.

At 6:05 p.m., protesters blocked traffic and began their march down West College Avenue.

State College police officers blocked oncoming traffic for what they said was the protesters’ safety.

The group marched down West College Avenue before making a left turn down South Fraser Street.

The group then turned left onto West Beaver Avenue.

Making their final turn onto South Allen Street, protesters rallied toward their ending position back at the Allen Street Gates.

Ending at the Allen Street Gates, the group encountered several counter-protesters. Subsequently, the pro-Palestine protest concluded peacefully.

While the actual protest concluded around 7 p.m., those in attendance and across the street didn’t fully clear out until after 7:30 p.m. However, they did so with little incident.
