Simon Mack Named Big Ten Hockey Third Star Of The Week

Penn State men’s hockey captain Simon Mack was honored with Big Ten Hockey’s Third Star of the Week after his performances this weekend in helping the Nittany Lions in their season-opening sweep against the Alaska Fairbanks.

Mack scored the overtime game-winning goal along with one assist in the Nittany Lions 4-3 win on Saturday night. He also had back-to-back multi-point efforts with a plus-four rating this past weekend in Alaska. Mack has six multi-point games for his career, and this weekend marked the first time he’s made back-to-back multi-point efforts during his time in Happy Valley.

The game-winning goal is the first of Mack’s career and his nine career goals have him tied with last year’s captain, Christian Berger, for the ninth-most by a Nittany Lion blueliner all-time.

Mack’s four points led all Big Ten blueliners for the weekend, ranking tied for second in the conference overall, with his plus-four rating leading all Big Ten defensemen and ranking tied for second-best in the country.

The Nittany Lions continue their season next weekend with a trip to Quinnipiac for a single game at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 12.
