Please Add More Milkshake Flavors: An Open Letter To The Berkey Creamery

The Berkey Creamery is a staple of Penn State. There’s no doubt about it.

I grew up eating Berkey Creamery ice cream with my dad on football gamedays ever since I was a little kid. When I was younger going to the Creamery was more of a highlight of the trip for me than the actual game itself honestly. I mean, who doesn’t love ice cream?

Let’s flash forward about 10 or 15 years. I’m a sophomore in college, and it’s a nice Thursday in September. I was early to a lecture, and I had an exam in Pollock, so I decided to reward myself with a milkshake.

One would assume that with over 100 delicious Penn State flavors, milkshake flavors would be in abundance. Right?

But, as it turns out, even with all the 100 flavors the Creamery offers, there are only four flavors one can enjoy for a milkshake. Four. Those four are Vanilla Bean, Chocolate, Bittersweet Mint, and Peachy Paterno.

As a self-proclaimed milkshake connoisseur, I’m extremely upset about this.

I believe that the Creamery should include more flavors available for milkshake options. I think that this will absolutely increase not only business for the Creamery but overall student happiness.

I know the Creamery gets really crowded on gameday and weekends, but think of all the students it can bring in during the week if it just adds more flavors.

Aced an exam and want to grab something to drink on your walk back? Just grab a Death by Chocolate milkshake.

Your boyfriend broke up with you and you want to cry about it to your friends? Talk it over while drinking a Happy Happy Joy Joy milkshake to lift your spirits.

I don’t know about you, but it’s hard to stop at the creamery on a busy day when I don’t have time to sit down and eat there. But a milkshake to drink while walking home? Perfect.

Please make the change, Berkey Creamery. I’m sure milkshake fans will come in waves. You won’t regret it.
