Tyler Warren & Ryan Barker Earn Big Ten Of The Week Honors

Here comes more Nittany Lion recognition, folks!

Penn State football tight end Tyler Warren and kicker Ryan Barker both earned Big Ten honors on Monday after their respective performances in the Nittany Lions 33-30 win over USC.

Warren was tabbed as the Co-Offensive Player of the Week with Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel. The senior tight end had a career day in Los Angeles to lead Penn State to victory.

The Mechanicsville, Virginia, native tied an FBS record for most receptions in a game by a tight end with 17, while also racking up 224 yards through the air and a touchdown.

Warren’s 224 receiving yards is a Big Ten and Penn State record by a tight end in a single game. It’s the second most by a Nittany Lion receiver of all time, behind only Jahan Dotson’s 242-yard performance in 2021 against Maryland.

Warren did it all for the Nittany Lions on Saturday, lining up at tight end, quarterback, center, and fullback throughout the game. The senior pass-catcher has been getting national recognition for his entire performance against the Trojans including his touchdown catch that landed at No. 5 on Sportscenter’s Top 10 Plays.

Barker also picked up conference recognition by being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his performance against USC in Penn State’s victory.

The redshirt freshman from Landenberg, Pennsylvania, hit four field goals and three extra points inside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The highlight of the day came as the left-footed kicker walked off the Trojans in overtime with a 36-yard field goal that slipped inside the left upright.

Barker became the first Nittany Lion to hit four field goals in a game since Tyler Davis in 2016. The redshirt freshman is perfect on the year so far after replacing Sander Sahaydak against Illinois.

The Nittany Lions enter the bye week with a 6-0 record before heading to Madison, Wisconsin, to face the Badgers at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 16. The game will be televised on NBC.
