Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week Nine Roundup
We’ve officially reached the halfway point in the 2024 NFL season, folks.
While Penn State lost to Ohio State for the eighth consecutive year, Penn State alumni in the NFL tried to take out their frustrations on the field. Just like its game on Saturday, many didn’t make significant impacts for their teams.
Without further ado, here’s how the Nittany Lions fared in week nine of the NFL season.
Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles
What can Saquon Barkley not do?
Running back Barkley continued to make his legendary mark with the Philadelphia Eagles and had a performance for the ages against the Jacksonville Jaguars, rushing for 159 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. The performance brought Barkley within 75 yards of getting to 1,000 rushing yards this season.
Barkley wasn’t done as he tallied three receptions for 40 yards and a receiving touchdown as he again led the Eagles to a 28-23 victory over the Jaguars.
This brought Barkley’s total touchdowns to eight. Also, he had one of the best acrobatic plays this season as he made a backward hurdle over Jacksonville Jaguars’ cornerback Jarrian Jones.
Mike Gesicki, Cincinnati Bengals
Tight end Mike Gesicki followed up his performance from last week with his best performance for the Cincinnati Bengals during their 41-24 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Gesicki recorded five receptions for 100 yards and scored two touchdowns, his first touchdowns since joining the Bengals as he finished with the second-most targets on the team behind Ja’Marr Chase.
Parker Washington, Jacksonville Jaguars
Despite not making a significant impact, wide receiver Parker Washington had three receptions on six targets for 41 yards during the Jaguars’ loss against the Eagles. He was the second-leading receiver behind tight end Evan Engram and continued to maximize his expanded role since the season-ending injury of wide receiver Christian Kirk.
Theo Johnson, New York Giants
Welcome to the league, Theo Johnson.
The rookie tight end recorded three catches on six targets for 51 yards during the Giants’ 27-22 loss to the Washington Commanders. In the process, Johnson scored the first touchdown of his NFL career and finished with the second-most targets on the team behind Malik Nabers.
Jahan Dotson, Philadelphia Eagles
Even though wide receiver Jahan Dotson’s role has been very limited since he was traded to Philadelphia, he made a highlight-worthy catch during its win against Jacksonville. In his only target, Dotson made a nasty reception for 36 yards over a defender’s head.
Arnold Ebiketie, Atlanta Falcons
The former second-round pick linebacker Arnold Ebiketie made his presence known during the Atlanta Falcons’ victory over the Dallas Cowboys. He registered a total of three solo tackles, two assisted tackles, and his first sack of the season.
