Penn State Board Of Trustees Approves Renovations & Additions To Sackett Building
Penn State’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved renovations and additions to the Sackett Building on Friday.
Construction is set to begin in November 2024 and will run through fall 2027. Renovations were done by Kieran Timberlake of Philadelphia, and the budget for the project was set at $89.9 million.
The renovations are set to address deferred maintenance with a remodel of interior space, the addition of two wings, and exterior site work that includes a new accessible pedestrian route. The project aligns with demolition plans of the Sackett’s existing wings, Kunkle Lounge, and Engineering Units A, B and C.
Once renovated, Sackett will feature 12 general purpose classrooms with 40 to 120 seats and a knowledge commons.
The planned building is the latest of construction work on Penn State’s campus. Work on Pollock Halls will begin in May 2025, which is expected to last five years. The university is also working on major renovations to Beaver Stadium, which will run until the 2027 college football season. After Pollock Halls work is completed, Penn State will turn its eyes to renovating West Halls.
On Friday, the board also approved lease of land for a 1,500-bed housing project at the corner of College Avenue and University Drive, and the construction of a new classroom building at the corner of Park Avenue and Bigler Road.
