Relive Onward State’s Roadtrip To Purdue
Onward State was on the road again.
This past weekend, Onward State’s football beat embarked on a nine-hour journey to West Lafayette, Indiana, to watch the Nittany Lions face off against the Purdue Boilermakers.
Let’s take a gander at our team’s trip to and from Indiana.
Friday
Since we folks on Onward State are #grittynotpretty, we all left State College around 12:30 p.m. so CJ could take an exam and I could go to class.
Unfortunately, for the first hour and a half of the car ride, we were fighting the good fight with Apple CarPlay. Everyone needed to take a stretch break after listening to the sweet sounds of radio static, so we filled up at a gas station somewhere in Pennsylvania.
After our stop and a Nolan Wick crashout, we got the Apple CarPlay working and were bumping to “Ima Boss” all the way to the worst state ever.
The gang was getting hungry, so we stopped at Old 30 BBQ in Bucyrus, Ohio. Due to some difficult service, we wrote a Yelp review, ditched the joint, and traveled to Cheers 2 U in Upper Sandusky. The restaurant had TouchTunes, so Cheers 2 U made us reconsider there might be one good thing in Ohio.
After a couple more hours, what we thought was the light at the end of the tunnel was just some White Out conditions ahead. As we crossed the state line from Ohio into Indiana, Nolan captured the “Welcome to Indiana” sign in a Penn State White Out fashion.
In the home stretch of our drive, a few of us suffered from windmill anxiety before ending up at our hotel in Remington, Indiana: the border town in between time zones.
Saturday
Gameday.
After waking up around 7 a.m. central time, we took in Remington’s wonderful scenery and got a glimpse of the windmills in the daylight. There were a lot of windmills, and they were quite large.
To fuel up for gameday, we stopped at the Westside Diner in West Lafayette. The food was great and portions were very generous for the price. We would highly recommend it if anyone is traveling to Indiana and looking for breakfast.
After getting some food, we made our way over to Ross-Ade Stadium. It was a bit of a culture shock when we showed up and there were more people inside the stadium three hours before kickoff than tailgating outside.
We all know what happened next: The Nittany Lions beat the Boilermakers 49-10 without trouble. The outcome of the game wasn’t much of a surprise.
Sunday
We woke up early the next morning to head back to State College. Our route home took us through Indianapolis, Columbus, and the line at Culver’s. That’s all from this trip, but stay tuned for the drive to Minnesota next week.
