Abdul Carter Named Lombardi Award Finalist

Penn State football defensive end Abdul Carter was named a Lombardi Award finalist on Wednesday. The Lombardi Award honors the college football lineman who “displays exceptional performance and ability and embodies the character and discipline that Vince Lombardi championed throughout his life,” highlighted on the award’s website.

Carter has continued to dominate on the defensive line for the Nittany Lions. He has amassed eight sacks, two forced fumbles, three passes defended, and 45 total tackles with two games left to play. Carter is also a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award, the Lott IMPACT Trophy, and the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.

Carter is a finalist alongside Texas’ Kelvin Banks Jr., LSU’s Will Campbell, and South Carolina’s Kyle Kennard. He became Penn State’s first finalist since Carl Nassib, who won the award in 2015 before playing professional football from 2016 to 2022.

The Lombardi Award winner will be announced at a banquet in Houston on December 11. Folks interested can buy tickets or donate here.
