Staff Picks: Which Penn Staters Would You Want Over For Thanksgiving?
Setting a Thanksgiving guest list is never easy.
For many families hosting Thanksgiving each year, there’s a complicated balance between deciding which family or friends should partake in the year’s biggest feast together.
Of course, we decided to make it more difficult and throw a few (sometimes) famous Penn Staters into the mix. Our staffers made their choices as to which Penn State celebrities they’d like to share mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce with.
Dillon Williams: Ace Baldwin Jr.
I would bring Penn State men’s basketball guard Ace Baldwin Jr. to Thanksgiving. In my minimal chances to interact with the team, Baldwin always seems to be the life of the party. He brings good energy to every practice, and I’m sure he’d be very opinionated on the NBA, making him a perfect fit at my Thanksgiving table. Baldwin would have a seat at my family’s table any time, as he seems like a great dude to hang around!
Mikey DeAngelis: Mike Rhoades
I’d like to bring Mike Rhoades to my family’s Thanksgiving. He seems like a genuine, down-to-earth guy who you could drink a beer with, toss a football around, and enjoy some nice Thanksgiving food. He also seems like the sort of guy who would appreciate the “thankful” nature of the holiday.
Michael Siroty: Justin Lustig
During the Minnesota game, my grandpa was not happy with the Penn State special teams unit. I’d like for Justin Lustig, the special teams coordinator, to come to Thanksgiving so he and my grandpa can talk out their issues. Don’t worry, I’ll be there to calm them down if things get heated.
Tia Kaschauer: Steve Manuel
Steve Manuel is the greatest person to bring to Thanksgiving! With Manuel being a public relations professor, he can teach us all something. He has enough stories to make sure dinner doesn’t get awkward or boring. Plus, he can take our family photos because he does a lot of photography in his free time. He can also add great commentary while we all watch football because he has never missed a Penn State football game.
CJ Gill: Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren has turned into Mr. Do-It-All for Penn State football this season. He can catch the ball, throw the ball, run the ball, and even snap the ball for the Nittany Lions. So who wouldn’t want to talk to the superstar tight end over Thanksgiving dinner?
I want the Heisman finalist hopeful to come to Thanksgiving because of all the different things he can do. Something tells me the Swiss army knife can do it all in the kitchen as well as the field. I’d put him in charge of everything from making the turkey and mashed potatoes to baking the pumpkin pie. I put my full faith in No. 44 to make sure everyone is well-fed for the holidays. Who wouldn’t want to eat dinner with Warren before he hopefully finds himself leading the Nittany Lions to a College Football Playoff berth with a win against Maryland?
Joe Lister: Pat Kraft
If you care about any Penn State sport, you should want Pat Kraft at your Thanksgiving. The vice president for intercollegiate athletics has a lot on his mind, and it would be cool to have an insight into the inner workings of Penn State Athletics.
How is Penn State doing with fundraising for the Beaver Stadium project? How much money does Penn State have in its NIL bank? When will Penn State give Mike Rhoades a lifetime extension? These are all questions Kraft could answer while we enjoy my aunt’s canned pumpkin bread.
