Four Penn State Women’s Volleyball Players Earn All-Big Ten First-Team Honors
Four Penn State women’s volleyball players were named to the All-Big Ten first team, the conference announced Wednesday.
The Nittany Lions recognized were Jess Mruzik, who was a unanimous selection, along with Izzy Starck, Camryn Hannah, and Taylor Trammell.
Mruzik, a fifth-year senior in her second year at Penn State, led the team in kills with 439 and was named one of seven all-Big Ten unanimous selections.
Freshman setter Starck earned First-Team honors after leading the conference in assists with 1,215, and she was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
Behind only Mruzik, Hannah put down 388 kills in her second season as a Nittany Lion, while also having 94 digs, 40 more than she had last season.
Playing in the blue and white for a third year, Trammell put down a career-high 219 kills to go along with 110 blocks.
Along with the four players, head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year after leading Penn State to a 29-2 regular season and No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Additionally, junior libero Gillian Grimes, who led the team with 426 digs, was named to the All-Big Ten second team, while Nebraska transfer Caroline Jurevicius joined Starck on the All-Freshman team after a 186-kill regular season.
The Nittany Lions return to Rec Hall for the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Delaware State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 6. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
