Penn State Women’s Volleyball Earns NCAA Tournament No. 1 Seed, Will Play Delaware State In First Round

Penn State women’s volleyball was given a No. 1 seed and the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday. The Nittany Lions will face Delaware State on Friday, December 6, in the opening round.

After securing a 3-1 win over Nebraska on Friday, Penn State won a share of the Big Ten title, which gave the Nittany Lions an automatic bid to the tournament and solidified their spot as a top-four overall seed.

As one of four No. 1 seeds, Penn State will be a host site for a regional, giving the Nittany Lions home matches for the first four rounds of the tournament up to the quarterfinals.

In her third season as head coach, Katie Schumacher-Cawley led the blue and white to a 29-2 regular season while going 19-1 in conference play and 16-0 at home. The Nittany Lions lost only to Pitt and Wisconsin.

The first-round matchup with the Hornets will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Rec Hall. All matches in the tournament will be televised on the ESPN family of networks.
