No Refund Theatre Presents: Graduation

No Refund Theatre (NRT) has returned once again, folks.

This week, NRT is debuting a musical, “Graduation.” The show was written and directed by Ethan Leicht and Hannah Recchiuti-Quier, both seniors coming close to their own graduations.

The musical, as indicated by the title, is about college students as graduation comes closer and closer. Some have it all figured out, and some don’t, yet the end of their time inches closer. While getting out to the real world is the main plot point, it’s about more than that. It’s about this college thing as a whole, and how all these different people live their lives together.

The fictional college our characters attend is called Beaumont, but the veil is thin. Every character in the play — whether it’s the leads Peter Coté and Mariella Lionato, or any of the more minor parts — feels like a real person, someone you’ve definitely met somewhere before. Anyone in the audience will relate to something there, if not all of it.

The cast is an ensemble, with 14 actors and even more characters. Nearly everyone has their own little storyline as the show progresses, and the performances make you feel every moment as they go along.

The writers and directors spent nearly half their college lives putting this together, about a year and a half, living what they’re writing as it came together.

“I think that’s something that’s really special about this show, that the people who’re performing in it and the people who come to see it will actually be who we’re trying to portray,” co-hyphenate Ethan Leicht said.

The characters’ lives go through ups and downs, meeting with circumstances that everyone here has been through at some point or another.

To check out this show, folks can head to Forum 111 at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 9 p.m. Friday, December 6, and 9 p.m. Saturday, December 7. As always, tickets are free — just no refunds.
