Where Do Nittany Lions Land In Late-Season NFL Mock Drafts?
With over a month left in the NFL season, it’s about time to talk about the 2025 NFL Draft and take another look at mock drafts.
While there will be some movement in terms of the draft order, the majority of draft prospects have put together a full season of work for scouts and teams to evaluate before the NFL Combine.
With conference championship week and the College Football Playoff coming up, there will be ebbs and flows with draft stock. Regardless, let’s look at how the draft-eligible Penn State players are being evaluated for the 2025 NFL Draft before the postseason.
Chris Trapasso (CBS Sports)
CBS Sports writer Chris Trapasso published his mock draft covering the first round of selections. Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Abdul Carter was the only Penn State player named in Trapasso’s draft board, as the defensive end was projected to go to the Carolina Panthers with the No. 5 overall pick.
If Trapasso’s prediction holds, Carter would become the highest-drafted Penn State player since Saquon Barkley was drafted No. 2 overall in the 2018 draft.
Daniel Flick (Sports Illustrated)
Daniel Flick of Sports Illustrated projected two Penn State players to hear their names called in his latest first-round mock draft. Flick included Carter in his mock draft, projecting him to go to the New Orleans Saints with the No. 7 overall pick.
Flick’s second Penn State addition to the first round was the 2024 Kwalick-Clark Tight End of the Year, Tyler Warren, who Flick predicted would be drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers with the No. 23 overall pick in the draft. If the projection holds, Warren would be the first Penn State tight end drafted in the first round since Tyler Brady was drafted to the New York Jets with the ninth overall pick of the 1995 draft.
Rob Rang (Fox Sports)
Similar to Flick, Fox Sports NFL draft analyst Rob Rang also projected Carter and Warren to be drafted in the first round of his latest mock draft. Rang believes Carter will be drafted by the New England Patriots with the No. 6 overall pick in the draft, stating his explosive first step as the main reason why Patriots head coach Jerrod Mayo would be interested.
Rang projected Tyler Warren to be drafted No. 29 overall to the Philadelphia Eagles, joining him with Barkley. Rang sees Warren as the perfect replacement for Dallas Goedert, who turns 30 next fall. Warren’s ability would add to an already explosive offense filled with Pro Bowl and All-Pro talent.
Connor Rogers (NBC Sports)
Connor Rogers of NBC Sports also projected Warren and Carter to be the only two Nittany Lions taken off the board in the first round of his mock draft. Rogers projected Carter will be selected with the No. 2 overall pick by the Tennessee Titans. If this were to happen, Carter would become the highest-selected Penn State defensive player since Courtney Brown was drafted first overall to the Browns in the 2000 draft.
“Carter is an excellent athlete who has made a successful transition from off-ball linebacker. He can rush off the edge or even standing up over interior offensive linemen,” Rogers wrote.
Rogers projected Warren to be selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the No. 15 overall pick in the draft. He cited head coach Shane Steichen’s offensive creativity as a reason why Warren would fit well within the Colts’ offense.
Tankathon
In Tankathon’s latest three-round mock draft, five Nittany Lions were projected in the first 101 picks. Carter was the first pick off the board, landing with the Titans as the No. 7 pick. Warren was the other first-round pick as he was projected to be drafted by the Denver Broncos with the No. 23 pick.
There were no Nittany Lions projected to go in the second round, but safety KJ Winston was the second pick in the third round, going to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the No. 66 overall pick. It is unclear whether Winston will declare for the draft after missing the majority of his junior season with a long-term injury.
Finally, quarterback Drew Allar and running back Nick Singleton were drafted with the No. 96 and 97 picks by the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings, respectively. As with Winston, Allar’s draft decision is up in the air, though Singleton is largely expected to declare for the draft.
