Penn State Earns 2024 Team USA Collegiate Impact Award

Penn State received the 2024 Team USA Collegiate Impact Award — Olympics Silver Award from the United States Olympics & Paralympic Committee.

The award celebrates the schools that contribute the most to Team USA’s performance at both Paris 2024 games. Four other schools were honored with Stanford winning the gold award, Texas and Kentucky receiving bronze, and Illinois receiving the Paralympic Gold.

All schools were honored at the National Football Foundation’s award celebration on Tuesday, December 10, in Las Vegas.

Out of 606 Olympians who competed for Team USA, 75% competed collegiately across 172 schools and 46 conferences. Of the 225 Paralympians, 53% competed collegiately.

Penn State contributed 12 U.S. medalists to the games out of the 231 total medals. Alumni medaled in women’s soccer, shot put, women’s volleyball, men’s gymnastics team, men’s gymnastics pommel horse, women’s rugby, men’s volleyball, and wrestling.

Most notably, women’s soccer stars Alyssa Naeher and Sam Coffey won the gold medal after beating Brazil. Men’s gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik led the Nittany Lions with two bronze medals for the pommel horse and became an instant sensation.
