Izzy Starck Named AVCA National Freshman Of The Year

Penn State women’s volleyball setter Izzy Starck was named the AVCA National Freshman of the Year, the organization announced Wednesday morning.

Starck was No. 4 in the nation and No. 1 in the Big Ten with 1,372 total assists, and No. 14 nationally with 10.89 assists per set.

Also a second-team All-American, Starck became the first Nittany Lion to be named AVCA Freshman of the Year since 2014 and fifth in program history.

Prior to receiving National Freshman of the Year honors, Starck was also named the AVCA East Coast Region and Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

Starck and Penn State will be back in action Thursday night against Nebraska in the national semifinal at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville. The match will be televised on ESPN with first serve schedule for 30 minutes after the 6:30 p.m. Pitt-Louisville match concludes.
