Veteran Families Able Now To Receive In-State Tuition

Veterans, their spouses, and dependent children who do not currently reside in Pennsylvania will now be eligible for resident tuition rates at public universities, state-owned institutions, state-related institutions, and private schools in Pennsylvania, according to recent state legislation.
Resident tuition rates will also be extended to guards, reservists, active-duty members, and their spouses and dependent children regardless of residency. Civilian personnel, their spouses, and dependent children employed at a Department of Defense facility who transferred to Pennsylvania or currently reside in the state are also eligible for in-state tuition rates.
Acceptable documentation includes a DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (Member 4 copy) that specifies the branch of service and character of discharge. Active duty service members may provide a command letter, while Department of Defense civilian employees must submit documentation confirming their employment transfer to Pennsylvania and residency in the state.
For dependents of service members or Department of Defense personnel, acceptable proof of dependent status includes a DD 1172-2 Application for Identification Card/DEERS Enrollment, a DD 93 Record of Emergency Data, a VA dependents list, the most recent federal tax form showing the student as a claimed dependent, or other appropriate documentation that confirms veteran or dependent status.
World Campus students and students with VA Education benefits are already charged an in-state tuition rate regardless of residency, so no further action is required.
According to the Pennsylvania General Assembly, all Penn State branch campuses are included.
