Compiling Things To Do At Penn State During The Winter

The weather outside is frightful, folks.
When winter hits at Penn State, campus and State College can be pretty unbearable. Still, you have to admit, it transforms into a winter wonderland.
If you miss the warmth and want to escape the cold, there’s something for everyone, from ice skating and skiing to cozy coffee shops and sporting events.
We compiled the best things to keep yourself busy (and warm) during the winter season.
Ice Skate At Pegula Ice Arena
Pegula Ice Arena offers public skate hours weekly for $7 for students, $9 for adults, and $8 for children under 18. Skate rentals are $4, or you can B.Y.O.S (bring your own skates).

The arena also offers paid skating lesson every Sunday and Wednesday from now until the end of February. Each session costs $81.

Catch A Penn State Game
During the season, basketball, wrestling, hockey, fencing, swimming, and gymnastics are all in full swing, with many of the teams bringing home national titles each season.
Men’s Basketball
With eight more home games of the season, Penn State men’s basketball can be found at the Bryce Jordan Center. The next game is the “Wear White” against Ohio State at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 30. Ticket prices range from $14 to $105 each game.
Wrestling
Penn State wrestling has several home matches coming up over the course of the next few months. The next match is against Iowa at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 31, at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Men’s Hockey
Penn State men’s hockey has six more home games this season at Pegula Ice Arena, including a Hockey Valentine’s Day game on Friday, February 14. The next games are against Ohio State at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 24, and at 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 25. Tickets range from $21 to $80.

Spend A Day At Tussey Mountain
Tussey Mountain, located near State College, offers skiing, snowboarding, and tubing during the winter season. Lift tickets range from $25 to $55, ski and snowboard packages range from $15 to $45, helmets cost $10, or folks can get the season pass, ranging from $299 to $499. An hour of tubing costs $20 to $30.
Private and group lessons are also available at the mountain.
Stop By The Winter Farmers Market At The Penn State Agricultural Center
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday, the Winter Farmers Market offers a variety of fresh local produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, and more.
Visit Black Moshannon State Park
Black Moshannon State Park in Phillipsburg provides opportunities for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and winter hiking. The park is open year-round, and there is no entrance fee.
On Saturday, January 25, “Fun in the Snow” will provide ice mini golf, ice bowling, curling, and winter wildlife hikes, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Snowshoes, ice skates, and cross-country skis are available to borrow. Most activities will take place near the Environmental Learning Center and the warming hut.
Attend A Show At Eisenhower Auditorium
Want to support the arts? Eisenhower Auditorium offers monthly shows and performances throughout the year.
Grammy-nominated saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26. Tickets are on sale now ranging from $15 to $34. Following this performance, Tony Award-winning musical “Dear Evan Hansen” will make a stop in Happy Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27. Tickets range from $40 to $81.

Go To The Winter Carnival At Blue Spring Park
The Winter Carnival takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, and features games, ice skating, and local treats.
See A Movie Or Performance At The State Theatre
Upcoming showings at The State Theatre include “Dune,” “10 Things I Hate About You,” “Pretty Woman,” and “Lord of the Rings,” to name a few.
Winter Wellness At Millbrook Marsh Nature Center
Millbrook Marsh Nature Center hosts winter walks and guided programs promoting relaxation and wellness for $10. The next sessions take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, and 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 2.
Play In The Snow On HUB Lawn
HUB Lawn is a popular spot among students to sled, build snowmen, and hang out during snow days. In previous years, Frozone and Buzz the Gorilla have been spotted in snowball fights.
