Penn State Student Accused Of Aggravated Assault & Resisting Arrest While On Acid In Incident With Law Enforcement

A Penn State student faces two felonies, five misdemeanors, and a summary offense resulting from a January 19 alternation with Penn State police officers and his resident assistant at Beaver Hall.

Joel Pesachowitz, 19, is accused of two counts of aggravated assault, one count of resisting arrest, one count of disorderly conduct, one count of public drunkenness or similar misconduct, one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana, one count of possessing a controlled substance, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to an affidavit, police were dispatched to Beaver Hall around 11 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, after receiving reports of Pesachowitz rolling on the floor and yelling. Pesachowitz’s RA told police that he found Pesachowitz rolling around and screaming and, when the RA tried to approach him, Pesachowitz tackled the RA to the ground and temporarily restrained him.

When officers attempted to restrain Pesachowitz, he resisted arrest, per the affidavit. Officers eventually got him to the ground and placed handcuffs on him. Because of Pesachowitz’s behavior, police required a medic to sedate him. Due to Pesachowitz’s conduct, one officer on the scene sustained injuries to his right knee and right wrist, and another sustained injuries to her right hand.

Police located Pesachowitz’s friend, who said that Pesachowitz had taken LSD earlier in the evening, according to the affidavit. While on the ground, Pesachowitz repeatedly told officers that he wanted to do more acid.

After Pesachowitz was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center, according to the affidavit, police on the scene applied for a search warrant for his dorm room to search for more acid. Police found a disposable TCH vape, a “Sugar Daddy Punch” TCH vape, a smoking pipe that contained marijuana residue, a grinder with marijuana residue, and several wrappers.

Pesachowitz was unable to post bail but was released from custody.
