Buffalo Wild Wings Eyeing March 17 Opening In State College

The Buffalo Wild Wings previously rumored to take over space in the Maxxen in downtown State College is tentatively set for a March 17 opening, Executive Director of Marketing Rick Small confirmed to Onward State.
The restaurant, which previously applied for and secured a liquor license, would open as Penn State students return from spring break and get ready for the start of March Madness. According to Small, the Thursday and Friday of March Madness’ first week are usually Buffalo Wild Wings’ biggest days of the year, priming the restaurant to hit the ground running in Happy Valley.
The Buffalo Wild Wings would join El Jefe’s Taqueria, Mezeh Mediterranean Grill, and Tropical Smoothie Cafe at the Maxxen.
This wasn’t Buffalo Wild Wings’ first attempt to open in State College. The restaurant attempted to open on North Atherton Street in 2016, but those plans fell through by September 2017. Small said that the restaurant chain’s previous tries to get a business into the State College area just didn’t quite have the right timing.
Small said that Buffalo Wild Wings usually hold staffs of around 60 to tend to the restaurants and that 127 people came out to a hiring event the company put on. With locations at West Virginia and Virginia Tech, the restaurant isn’t new to maintaining operations in college towns.
“Everybody’s been great to work with in the State College area,” Small said. “We’re excited. It’s going to be incredible.”
