Tyler Kasak & Luke Lilledahl Earn Big Ten Wrestling Weekly Honors

Penn State wrestling swept weekly conference awards for the third time this season this week, as Tyler Kasak was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week, and Luke Lilledahl was named Big Ten Freshman Wrestler of the Week. The honors came after the Nittany Lions’ 30-8 win over No. 2 Iowa in the BJC Dual.

Kasak had arguably the most impressive showing of Friday’s dual, taking down then-No. 1 Jacori Teemer 5-2. Kasak went viral after the match for raising Teemer in the air in the final seconds of the match and fist-bumping the crowd while blood gushed from his taped-up forehead.

After the match, Kasak took over the top spot in the InterMat rankings, with the sophomore maintaining a sterling 13-0 record in his first year at 157 pounds.

Lilledahl won a bounce-back effort against No. 26 Joey Cruz, notching seven takedowns in an impressive 22-6 tech fall victory. He led off the eventual 30-8 dual meet victory after suffering his first loss last week against Dean Peterson of Rutgers. The true freshman improved to 12-1 but stayed at No. 7 in this week’s InterMat rankings at 125 pounds. This was his third Freshman of the Week honor of the season.

The undefeated Nittany Lions are back in action on Friday night against No. 19 Michigan at the Bryce Jordan Center for the second straight week. The match begins at 6 p.m. and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
