Staff Picks: Games To Play During THON 2025

The final day of THON is upon us, folks.

Let’s be honest. As much as we all love THON, it can get slow and very boring at times, especially on Sunday as we wait for the Final Four.

For that reason, it’s always important to bring games or have games loaded up on your phone that you can play with your friends. Here are a few games that our staff came up with to keep you entertained during the slow hours of THON.

Collin Ward: War

Look I don’t know if they even allow board games into the concourse, but if they do, War is the perfect choice. People always seem to have a really strong opinion on this game, but there is one thing that no one can deny. It takes a long time. Why not get through a couple of four-hour games while you battle through the 46 hours?

McKenna Murphy: Wordle, Connections, & The Mini

My pick for the best games to play during THON is the big three of the New York Times: The Wordle, The Connections, and The Mini. While these aren’t very collaborative games, they are sure to get your brain thinking about anything other than how bad your feet may hurt.

The sense of accomplishment you will feel from successfully completing all three will give you the boost you need to power through the rest of the weekend…or the next 15 minutes. If you do listen to my advice, make sure to turn your brightness down while doing these games. Spoiling the Wordle for others is not cool.

Fernando Martinez Ruiz De Esparza: Heads Up

This is the perfect game to play during THON.

It doesn’t require service to play on your phone and it’s so fun to play with your friends. It’s the perfect way to test your knowledge of pop culture, sports, etc. while your partner acts it out in a certain amount of time. You can play for as long as you want, it never gets boring, and it’s a great way to get your body going during these grueling 46 hours since you are doing movements during your acting out. Download it on your phone now and find somewhere in the BJC where you have service to make that happen.

Maya Thiruselvam: Uno

Not only is it a game you can play in the stands, but it shockingly makes the time pass by super quickly. Whether it’s Crazy 8 or some variation of Uno, it’s a perfect game to play with your org or on the floor. You can also play it with your THON children if you need something to keep them engaged and entertained.

Mitch Corcoran: Oklahoma Drill

Nothing will keep you awake like tackling one of your friends. It will give you a burst of adrenaline and it will get your body moving more than the Line Dance will. Plus, you’re not supposed to sit down during THON, so you better not lose. It’s a nice added challenge in addition to dancing for 46 hours straight.

Aidan Conrad: Catan

There’s never really a moment in which I wouldn’t want to be playing Catan. New Year’s Eve? Catan. Your own wedding? Catan. THON? Catan. If you want to play the physical board game, then you may need to find some space for it. If not, you can play online with Colonist.io if the internet allows you!

Ally Eaton: Hangman

From personal experience, Hangman is a great way to pass the time during THON Weekend. The interactive nature gets lots of folks involved and it allows you to be creative. Hangman can be played for long periods of time and is open to interpretation. Bonus points if you have a mini whiteboard to play on!

Nolan Wick: 500

It’s an easy, fun game to play that can involve everyone in the BJC. Imagine Drew Allar calling the shots, and people in section 213 get a chance to catch one of his passes for a jackpot. Or perhaps Ethan Grunkemeyer gets to show off his arm for a 200-point shot to those in attendance? Either way, anyone can participate and it’s a fun way to keep the body and mind active.
