No Refund Theatre Presents: ‘It’s Good To Be Bad’

This week, No Refund Theatre has brought us a fun one. It’s a comedy, sure, but there’s more to the fun than that. NRT’s new play, “It’s Good to be Bad,” is a superhero story, a nonlinear narrative, a meditation on bad friendships, and it also happens to be hilarious.

The play is set in a world where half the population has superpowers, and it’s hard for anyone to make a difference without them. When two regular people, Avery Whitlock and Jesse Burlowe, kill the world’s greatest superhero, they jump at the chance to join the League of Extraordinary Evildoers.
However, they have no idea what they’re doing.
The play is an original, written and directed by Pearce Hartz. The writing process took him nearly a year, along with “a lot of rewrites.”
While Pearce does take the writing credit, he gave the talented NRT actors free rein to improvise and mess around with their lines. The end result is full of pop culture references, meta jokes, and a show that finds humor in places you’d never expect.
“If you’re having fun beforehand and come to this show, this is the exact kind of show you want to see,” Hartz said.

State Patty’s weekend is fun, but take some time to watch this show. Sitting down for a show seems like the last thing you’ll want to do, but trust me, this isn’t that of a show.
Following the footsteps of the many superhero parodies that came before, “It’s Good To Be Bad” takes the much-loved genre and morphs it into something fresh and fun. Come see it in Forum 111 from Thursday, February 27, to Sunday, March 1. And as always, no refunds.
