Your Official State Patty’s Weekend Dos And Don’ts

It’s time to deck out in green, folks.

State Patty’s Day is one of the most anticipated (and most chaotic) weekends of the year at Penn State. As the last weekend in February rolls around, students celebrate the university’s very own (and very unofficial) holiday.

Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a first-timer, this guide of dos and don’ts will ensure you have a memorable weekend without any FOMO or felonies.

DO…

Drink All Day Long

State Patty’s is known as one of the biggest drinking events at Penn State, alongside Arts Fest. There’s no better way to celebrate the school’s very own, made-up holiday than drinking from sunrise to sunset. This is probably the most important “Do” on the list.

Wear Green Head-To-Toe

Despite it not being the real Saint Patrick’s Day, we’re celebrating a little sooner, and there’s no better way to do so than by decking out in everything green. You can get your green gear pretty much at any clothing store downtown, and some for less than $20 at McClanahan’s.

Eat Lucky Charms

Start your State Patty’s Day off right by eating a bowl or two of Lucky Charms and carrying the box around State College. After all, they’re magically delicious.

Spend Time With Your Friends

Get together with your group and get ready for an electric weekend. Whether it’s your first or last State Patty’s, make it count with your people by your side.

Play ‘Rattlin’ Bog’

On. Repeat.

Make Borgs Or Green Mimosas

Saquon BORGley, anyone?

Get a gallon of water, dump about a quarter of it, pour in some MIO and vodka, come up with a creative State Patty’s-themed name, and you’re all set.

DON’T…

Get Arrested

Although this weekend is full of fun and heavy drinking, remember that we’re actually not invincible and that State College and campus police will be everywhere this weekend.

Climb Up Lampposts

This is great for storming Beaver Avenue when a Philly or Penn State team secures a win, but not during State Patty’s. Save it for the next time the Eagles win the Super Bowl.

Take Down Street Signs

We don’t need another unlawful assembly.

Break Windows Of Local Businesses

Not cool, man. Not cool.

Drink & Drive

Just leave your car keys at home and walk or take a Lyft to your destination.

Storm Downtown

The last time a sea of green flooded downtown, just three weeks ago, it was electric. However, that’s not the vibe of State Patty’s. Just get some brews, get your pals, and have a grand time.

Remember to stay safe and be responsible this weekend, folks!
