Uncle John’s Jawns Ordered To Close By Centre Region Code Administration

That’s a brutal hit for the “outside of Philly crowd.”

Uncle John’s Jawns, which sells Philly cheesesteaks outside of Antifragile Brewing Co., has been closed down until further notice, according to its Facebook page. Onward State confirmed that the cheesesteak spot was ordered to close by the Centre Region Code Administration (CRCA).

The CRCA, according to its website, works “to promote, provide, and ensure the health, safety, and welfare” of folks living in the Centre Region, including State College. It deals with reviews, permits, and inspections for building construction, rental housing, and commercial fire safety.

Uncle John’s Jawns, one of a handful of cheesesteak spots in State College, doesn’t have its own storefront and operates on a grill directly outside Antifragile at 324 E. Calder Way. The cheesesteak grill opened in 2023 after the closing of Bradley’s Cheesesteaks & Hoagies down the street. Bradley’s has since been replaced at the 119 S. Pugh St. location by Campus Steaks.

Antifragile will remain open while working through the Uncle John’s Jawns matter. The bar thanked patrons for their support over the weekend.

The CRCA did not respond to a request for comment from Onward State.
