Brainstorming The Best Places To Take An NFL GM In State College

The NFL Draft is almost upon us, folks.

For many former Penn State football players, this is one of the more stressful times of their lives in the lead-up to what could give them their first NFL contract. These Nittany Lions are constantly working out, meeting with NFL teams, and trying to show they’re ready for the next level.

Recently, likely top-five pick Abdul Carter met with the Cleveland Browns at The Tavern while the team was in town for Penn State’s Pro Day. This got us wondering: Where else could Carter and the Browns organization have gone for dinner that night?

We compiled our best State College dinner recommendations for future NFL stars trying to impress Howie Roseman, Jerry Jones, and any other NFL general managers.

Campus Steaks

If you’re a lineman, you have to take the NFL team interviewing you to Campus Steaks. The Philly cheesesteak restaurant offers the “Campus Steaks Challenge,” in which participants have to consume a 24-inch cheesesteak, one large tray of french fries, and one large soft drink in under 30 minutes. If you can do all that, NFL teams will know you’ve got the eating stamina to weigh in with the biggest in the league.

Sharkies Bar & Thrifty Bottle Shop

Want to show an NFL team you aren’t afraid to get down and dirty? Take its representatives to Sharkies on a Saturday night. Run the table in Sharkies’ pool tournament and sing at Sharkeoke in the smoke-filled basement. Those teams will be so impressed with your ability to thrive in often-uncomfortable situations, they’ll have to offer you another $1 million on your signing bonus.

Doggie’s Pub

Taking a team to Doggie’s Pub shows an NFL team one thing: You’re a chill guy. You’re probably good for the locker room culture, not afraid of relaxing a little bit, and like having some fun with the folks around you. Challenge them to a game of cornhole to showcase that even when you’re relaxed, you can still get a little competitive.

Bill Pickle’s Tap Room

Bringing an NFL general manager to Pickle’s shows that you’re just like the fans in the city you’re soon to represent. You’re blue-collar, hard-nosed, and honest. You earn your beers and are respectful of those around you.

Local Whiskey

Local Whiskey, less frequented by Penn State students, shows an NFL general manager that you’re extremely professional. You aren’t getting sloppy at Champs or the Phyrst on whatever night you’re going out. You’re having Maker’s Mark on the rocks while enjoying a salad. If you wanna straighten your tie and get down to business, hammer out a deal at Local Whiskey.

Your Kitchen

If you want to showcase your independence, just bring an NFL representative to your house or apartment. Cook dinner for the full group and show that you aren’t one of those kids who has to rely on a meal plan to survive. You’re ready for adult life outside of college, and you won’t be a headache for any NFL team that has to take care of you.

Texas Roadhouse

Taking an NFL general manager to Texas Roadhouse, located a few miles north of downtown State College, shows you know how to drive. This, of course, immediately gives you a bump over any draft prospects from Georgia.
