Report: Lady Lions Assistant Coach Terri Williams To Accept Gardner-Webb Head Coaching Job

Penn State women’s basketball associate head coach Terri Williams is expected to be named Gardner-Webb’s next head coach, per On3’s Talia Goodman.

Williams spent three years on the Lady Lions’ coaching staff under head coach Carolyn Kieger. She was promoted to associate head coach ahead of the 2024-25 season and is largely credited with emphasizing Penn State’s signature defensive press over the last few seasons.

Williams, a Lady Lions alumnus herself, will make her third stop as a college head coach at Gardner-Webb.

The Hampton, Virginia, native started her coaching career in 1992 at Georgetown as an assistant coach after graduating from Penn State with a degree in business management. She took two more assistant coaching jobs at Georgia and Southwest Missouri State before inking her first head coaching deal with Georgetown again in 2004. She coached the Hoyas until 2012.

Williams’ longest coaching stint was with Auburn, where she led the Tigers from 2012 to 2021. Through her entire coaching career, Williams has made 12 NCAA Tournament appearances with three programs. Her deepest run came in 1999 when Georgia reached the Final Four.

Williams boasts a 283-242 head coaching record as she takes her talents to Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
