[Photo Story] GloRilla Rocks The Stage At SPA’s First BJC Concert

It was a fun night when GloRilla, one of hip-hop’s shining stars, came to town for a concert organized by the Student Programming Association (SPA). The concert marked the first SPA concert ever to be hosted in the BJC, a huge accomplishment for the organization.

The night started with a set from DJ Kalz, the winner of SPA’s first-ever DJ contest that happened a few weeks earlier. Kalz was met by excited fans who raced to secure a spot near the barricade shortly after the doors opened.

Kalz cycled through current and throwback hits to get the crowd hype, including music from Cardi B, Fetty Wap, and more. After DJ Kalz’s set concluded, out came Orchesis Dance Company, the winner of the Penn State Performing Arts Council dance competition.

The dance group paid homage to Michael Jackson by playing a medley of Michael Jackson hits, such as “Beat It” and “Smooth Criminal.” The group had MJ-inspired accessories as well, rocking a sparkly silver glove and a bedazzled fedora.

After the student acts, it was time for the first musical act of the night: Waka Flocka Flame. The 38-year-old rapper came out with high energy, getting the crowd active with his signature “Bow” adlibs.

Waka Flocka Flame paid tribute to music artists who have passed away, such as DMX and XXXTentacion, while also running through some of his biggest hits as well. The rapper ended his set by playing a crowd-favorite “No Hands.”

After Waka Flocka Flame, it was time for GloRilla to perform, and you could sense the excitement in the building before the rapper hit the stage.

When GloRilla hit the stage, she was accompanied by a group of backup dancers, who served as the perfect complement to her performance.

Throughout her set, the Memphis native had a charming playfulness and animation with the Bryce Jordan Center crowd as she continued to play hits from her latest album, “Glorious.”

GloRilla had the BJC rocking when she played some of her hardest-hitting hits, such as “TGIF,” “Wanna Be,” and “WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME.” A highlight of the night came when she performed her feature verse from Tyler, the Creator’s song, “Sticky.”

The 25-year-old rapper finished her set by playing her hit single “Yea Glo!” that had the crowd chanting the affirmation back to her in unison. Although GloRilla’s set was seemingly short compared to what was expected, the crowd still had a great time as the night concluded and confetti blasted through the Bryce Jordan Center.
