Abdul Carter Makes Debut On ESPN’s ‘Hey, Rookie’

Former Penn State football defensive end Abdul Carter made his debut on ESPN’s “Hey, Rookie: Welcome to the NFL” Monday night.

Carter joins the ranks of fellow Nittany Lions like Micah Parsons, Chop Robinson, Joey Porter Jr., and Saquon Barkley, all of whom were featured on the program ahead of their respective draft.

Carter was the third NFL prospect featured alongside Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, Ohio State’s Will Howard, and Georgia’s Mykel Williams.

During Carter’s segment, his relationship with his dad was emphasized. The Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year explained how his dad’s support and training helped shape him into the player you see today.

“I used to run around the block with a weight on my head, stuff like that. He did a lot of crazy things,” Carter said.

In the episode, Carter’s training and preparation for Penn State’s Pro Day were highlighted. Before he decided to sit out due to a stress fracture in his foot, he was preparing to work out in front of NFL evaluators.

Carter also touched on his thought process behind attending Penn State after he graduated from high school in 2022. He cited the program’s history and defensive reputation as swaying factors.

“My final three came down to Penn State, Ole Miss, and South Carolina. Penn State was the right place for me, it was close to home. Penn State was ‘Linebacker U’, and I play linebacker, so it was a perfect fit,” Carter said.

Throughout the episode, Carter’s confidence shines through. He is adamant that he ranks as the draft’s top prospect and reiterates that sentiment throughout his segment.

“I think I’m the best player in this draft. It’s all I talk about. Ask anyone that’s close to me.” Carter said. “I’m the best player. I should be the No. 2 pick.”

Carter’s next appearance on “Hey, Rookie: Welcome To The NFL” will air at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, and will be televised on ESPN2.
