Three-Star Safety Darrell Carey Commits To Penn State Football

Class of 2026 three-star safety Darrell Carey has committed to Penn State football, he announced on Friday. Carey is the second safety in the Nittany Lions’ 2026 class.

The 6’2″ and 185-pound, Hyattsville, Maryland, native ranks as the No. 23 safety, No. 7 player in Maryland, and No. 718 player in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Carey joins a Penn State recruiting class ranked No. 9 in the country, per the same metric. He is the second-ranked safety in the class behind four-star Matt Sieg from McDonald, Pennsylvania.

While his stats haven’t been updated since freshman year, in one season with Dematha Catholic High School, Carey had 19 tackles and one tackle for loss in seven games, per his MaxPreps profile.

Carey chose the Nittany Lions over South Carolina, Maryland, Oregon, and Texas A&M. To see what he can bring to Penn State’s receiving core, check out his Hudl highlights here.
