Penn State Women’s Soccer Alum Kerry Abello Earns First National Team Call-Up

Penn State women’s soccer alum Kerry Abello has been selected for the senior U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) for the first time.

Abello played for Penn State from 2017-2021, winning three Big Ten Championships and two Big Ten Tournament Championships during her time.

The defender played in 95 games for the Nittany Lions, scoring 17 goals and adding 12 assists from the backline.

The 25-year-old has become integral to the Orlando Pride in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) since joining in 2022, helping the team win its first championship and the regular season title. She became the first Pride player to appear in 50 consecutive matches, playing in every match so far in 2025.

Abello started 25 of 26 games in 2024, finishing the regular season with one goal and two assists and helping the Pride reach a record 13 clean sheets during the 2024 NWSL season.

Abello has played for the USA’s Youth National Teams, most recently joining the U-23 camp in 2022, but this is her first senior call-up. The defender has 10 combined U.S Youth National Team caps.

She joins fellow Nittany Lion Sam Coffey on the 23-player roster as the USWNT takes on China PR and Jamaica on May 31 and June 3, respectively.
