Update, 2:30 p.m.

Penn State has confirmed that Kayla Treanor is the next head coach for women’s lacrosse.

“I’m honored to be named the head coach of Penn State Women’s Lacrosse,” said Treanor. “I want to thank Pat Kraft and the entire athletics department for their trust in me and for the significant investment they’re making in this program. Our sights are set on bringing a National Championship to Happy Valley, and I’m excited to lead this team into a new era of success.”

Original Story:

Pat Kraft has found his next head coach.

Penn State women’s lacrosse is set to hire Kayla Treanor as its next head coach, according to Matt Kinnear of Inside Lacrosse. Treanor has spent the last four years as the head coach at Syracuse.

Missy Doherty stepped down from the helm of the Nittany Lions women’s lacrosse program on May 1 after 15 years leading the blue and white.

Treanor starred for the Orange on the field from 2013-16 before starting her coaching career. Treanor spent the last four seasons leading the Orange to a 59-24 record as their head coach. Syracuse reached the NCAA Final Four in both 2023 and 2024.

The Nittany Lions went a disappointing 7-9 and 5-3 in conference play in 2025, one of the worst years under Doherty.
