Five-Star Forward Pierce Mbuyi Commits To Penn State Men’s Hockey

A massive offseason for Penn State head coach Guy Gadowsky continued on Friday.

Penn State men’s hockey landed a commitment from five-star Canadian forward Pierce Mbuyi, he announced on Instagram.

Mbuyi, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, turned 17 in April. He figures to be a one-and-done in Happy Valley, as he’s a projected first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. In 63 games with the Owen Sound Attack in the Ontario Hockey League this past season, he scored 29 goals with 52 total points.

His strong season earned him the OHL Rookie of the Year award, previously won by NHL stars Andrei Svechnikov (2018), Connor McDavid (2013), Patrick Kane (2007), and even Wayne Gretzky in 1978.

Mbuyi joins a stacked 2025 recruiting class for Penn State, which has already landed commitments from five-star prospects Jackson Smith and Luke Misa, as well as landing the top defenseman in the transfer portal, Hobey Baker Finalist Mac Gadowsky.

The team might not be done yet, as they continue to be hot on the trail to land the commitments of star forwards Porter Martone and Gavin McKenna.
