Your Guide To College GameDay At Old Main Lawn

College GameDay is back in town!

Saturday will be the 12th time Penn State has hosted ESPN’s college football pregame show. A season ago, GameDay was outside the Bryce Jordan Center for the Nittany Lions’ matchup with Ohio State. It’s been a while since the crew has set up shop in front of Old Main, so here is everything you need to know before you go!

GameDay will air live on ESPN from 9 a.m. until noon on Old Main Lawn. The crew is highlighted by Rece Davis, Nick Saban, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, and Kirk Herbstreit. It’s Davis’s 11th season as host of the show. It should be no surprise, with the White Out starting at 7:30 p.m. on NBC, that folks are encouraged to wear white for the show.

The most dedicated fans can enter the GameDay pit at 6:30 a.m., where hardhats and the best views of the set will be available. Fans can begin lining up for the pit as early as 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. There are a few general rules for fans who wish to be in the pit.

  • Fans entering the pit will be screened by security using metal detection wands.
  • No bags, backpacks, or purses are allowed.
  • No offensive, vulgar, inappropriate, or solicitation signage will be allowed
  • No signs or flags on a stick.
  • No pens, pencils, markers, or dry-erase boards allowed.
  • No food or drinks.
  • Throwing of objects is prohibited.

If years past are any indication, fans will want to show up as early as possible for the best experience of GameDay. Last year, fans began camping out the night before in anticipation of the show.

GameDay is craziness in the best possible way. Happy Valley will be the center of the college football universe on Saturday. It may not be a perfect morning, with some lingering weather, but GameDay is back in its rightful spot on Old Main Lawn.

There should be thousands of people in the area of GameDay on Saturday, many of which will be dressed in all white. It could be chaotic and tiring at times, so make sure to stay safe and enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience that’s on its way.
