Gameday Observations: Oregon

Saturday’s game was tough.
The White Out brought high hopes, and quickly fell apart in the closing minutes. Here are some things we noticed in the stadium besides the loss.
Nothing Beats A Night White Out
Is there really anything better than a nighttime White Out? It’s unmatched; nobody can replicate it. The sea of white standing out at night in the packed Beaver Stadium with the roar of the fans is one of the best experiences you can get as a Penn State student, even with the loss.
Best Student Section So Far
I thought that Saturday’s game gave us the best student section this season, how it should have been all along. Students got in early, I had the fast entrance and got in over 90 minutes before, and was still at the top of the lower deck.
There were many times I couldn’t hear myself cheering at all, I was drowned out by all the voices. But of course, once the game ended, the fans quickly flipped and were immediately booing the team and calling for James Franklin to be fired. The support the team has been looking for all year really switched quickly.
Fast Pass Entry Works Great
Penn State football recently announced a fast pass entry for students. They just need to pick up their bands the day before, and then there’s a separate line for them to go through to enter the stadium without waiting to get them put on. It worked so well on Saturday, with everyone getting through that line in five minutes, fixing the issues from earlier this year.
Security Stopping Fans From Leaving
At the end of the game, many students were quick to leave, frustrated with the loss and not wanting to watch Oregon’s celebrations. But, security would not let people leave. They stopped a whole crowd of people, pushing students apart and telling them they had to stop because of coaches leaving. But at the same time, fans were coming down the escalators, hitting the barricade and getting backed up, a disaster waiting to happen. I saw one parent basically throw the barricade aside, trying to get back to and help his toddler son. Fans pushed back against security to get out and avoid injuries, but it was a crazy scene to end the day. For everyone posting online that the students were nice to stay for the Alma Mater, many had no choice.
