Nittany Lions In The NFL: Week Five

Yet another week of NFL action is in the books, folks.

Teams are starting to settle into the standings, and players are finding their rhythm.

For our Nittany Lions in the NFL, it was a week of highs and lows. Let’s take a look at which former Penn State stars shined the brightest in week five.

Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles

The slow start on the ground in 2025 continued for Saquon Barkley this Sunday. Barkley rushed for just 30 yards on six carries in Philadelphia’s 21-17 loss to the Denver Broncos. However, the reigning Offensive Player of the Year was effective in the passing game, hauling in all three of his targets for 58 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown reception early in the third quarter.

Tyler Warren, Indianapolis Colts

Former Penn State football star Tyler Warren hauled in his first career receiving touchdown in the Colts’ 40-6 handling of the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Warren, who wore No. 44 at Penn State, brought in all four of his targets for 44 yards in the blowout. The rookie leads all NFL tight ends in yards (307) through five weeks.

Chris Godwin Jr., Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Despite the Buccaneers winning a 38-35 shootout over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, former Penn State receiver Chris Godwin Jr. brought in just three catches for 26 yards. The veteran pass catcher continues to ramp up from the major ankle injury he suffered last October.

Parker Washington, Jacksonville Jaguars

Parker Washington found the endzone for the first time in 2025 during Jacksonville’s 31-28 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football. The speedy receiver reeled in two catches for 16 yards in addition to the score.

Theo Johnson, New York Giants

Theo Johnson logged a season-high six receptions on seven targets in the Giants’ 26-14 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon. His half-dozen grabs went for a total of 33 yards.

Brenton Strange, Jacksonville Jaguars

Brenton Strange caught his only target for 22 yards before exiting the game with an injury in the first quarter during the Jaguars’ 31-28 win over the Chiefs on Monday Night Football. The tight end was later ruled out with a hip injury in the second half.

Abdul Carter, New York Giants

The rookie growing pains continued for Abdul Carter on Sunday. The third overall pick logged a solo tackle and three assisted tackles in New York’s 26-14 loss.

Other Notable Alumni Performances

  • Ji’Ayir Brown logged a tackle in the San Francisco 49ers’ 26-23 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday Night Football.
  • Nick Scott racked up four solo tackles and an assisted tackle for the Carolina Panthers in their 27-24 win over the Miami Dolphins.
  • Mike Gesicki brought in two of five targets for 15 yards in the Cincinnati Bengals’ 37-24 loss to the Detroit Lions.
  • Jahan Dotson caught one pass for 24 yards in the Eagles’ 21-17 loss to the Broncos.
