Former Penn State Football Running Back Miles Sanders Out For NFL Season With Knee & Ankle Injuries

Former Penn State football and current Dallas Cowboys running back Miles Sanders will miss the remainder of the 2025 NFL season with knee and ankle injuries, Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones said Friday on 105.3 The FAN. The Cowboys will place him on season-ending injured reserve.

Sanders played in the Cowboys’ opening four games of 2025 before suffering an ankle injury in the second half of Dallas’ week four game against the Green Bay Packers. Before his injury, Sanders rattled off 117 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown. He also had eight receptions for 30 yards.

Through his entire NFL career, Sanders has amassed 4,462 rushing yards on 943 carries and 24 rushing touchdowns. He has 183 receptions for 1,274 yards and four touchdowns.

He played for the Philadelphia Eagles in his first four years from 2019 to 2022 before hopping over to the Carolina Panthers for the 2023 and 2024 NFL campaigns. He will now miss the majority of the season for the Cowboys, running through the one-year contract he signed in March.

With the blue and white, Sanders appeared in 38 games from 2016 to 2018. He won the starting job following Saquon Barkley’s exit to the 2018 NFL Draft. Sanders tabbed 1,649 yards for the Nittany Lions over 276 carries. He scored 12 rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown in Happy Valley.
