Staff Picks: What Should Be Added In The Doggie’s Pub Expansion

It was recently announced that Doggie’s Pub will be expanding into the neighboring Homerella Building, located at the corner of South Pugh Street and East Calder Way. The expansion will help to alleviate lines and provide more room and creative designs for bar-goers.
The new expansion is already set to include a new bar, restrooms, and a seating and standing area. With all this extra room, it got us thinking, what else could fill the space?
From ball pits to bar games, our staff members shared their picks for what the pub should offer.
Brandon Hurley: Slide and Ball Pit
I think the idea really speaks for itself. Realistically, who does not love slides and a ball pit? This would easily take Doggies to the next level, which is hard to top. There is no better way to enjoy a drink while sliding into a pit of plastic balls. In my head, it sounds like the best way to spend any State College holiday: Halloweekend, State Patty’s, etc. The moral of the story is, let’s add the slide and ball pit, and make weekends even more fun. Just don’t spill your drink.
Sylvia Prebor: Bar Games
Since I am not 21 yet, I don’t have a full idea of what is already offered in the bar scenes downtown. With that said, I do know Doggies offers things like corn hole. The expansion should include other interactive things to do, like duckpin bowling or pong.
Hannah Guidotti: Water Slide
I want a water slide at Doggie’s really bad. No real reason except for the fact that I would love to people-watch people going down it. I’ve never been, so basically, in my mind, Doggie’s is a fantasy world where anything can happen. You know what, let’s throw in a hut tub while we’re at it.
Ally Eaton: Self-Service Bar
Another bar can’t hurt, right? I think a beer dispenser where Doggie’s could feature local breweries and popular drinks on tap could be a great addition to the pub atmosphere. The self-service wall-mount dispenser would alleviate pressure and lines to get a drink, and enhance the creativity of the space.
This would allow Doggie’s to offer a wider variety of drinks on tap, and consumers could tap their ID and card each time they go up to the dispenser. This process could be managed by a security guard or someone on staff to ensure people pay and are drinking responsibly.
CJ Gill: Gaming Section
Bring a gaming section to Doggies Pub right now. Imagine being able to get a drink with your friends at the bar and then sit down on a couch and be able to play any video game you could want. I’m thinking beerio kart tournaments, playing some College Football 26 after Penn State football loses another game, or squading up for some Fortnite with the boys. I can’t think of many things Doggies needs to up their game, but adding a gaming section for bar-goers would be sick.
Ashley Connington: A Dog & Dog House
Look, we all love Doggies, but a lot of the time, it’s lacking actual dogs. Dogs can’t come on busy days, and there aren’t that many to find when they can come. So, why not have an actual Doggies mascot live in the new expansion? Build him a dog house and let all the drunk kids hang out with him. I know I would go crazy for this.
