Penn State Wrestling Remains At No. 1, Boasts Six In Top Five In Latest National Polls

Penn State wrestling is almost back, folks.
The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 1 in the second NWCA coaches poll on Tuesday. Penn State was the only program in the nation to receive first-place votes for the second straight week before its opening dual against No. 18 Oklahoma in the Bryce Jordan Center on Friday.
After head coach Cael Sanderson’s press conference on Tuesday, there have been shifts in the Intermat individual rankings.
At 141 pounds, it was hinted that Braeden Davis and Masanosuke Ono would redshirt, leaving Aaron Nagao as the apparent starter for the weight class. Before the change, Davis was ranked as the No. 9 wrestler in the class; however, with Nagao now set to start the junior is listed at No. 11.
There has also been a dramatic change of events in the 157-pound weight class, as two-time All-American and 2025 Big Ten champion Tyler Kasak is projected to be redshirted to make room for true freshman PJ Duke. Kasak was ranked as the No. 2 wrestler in the class before the change, while Duke has not yet been added to the rankings.
The remaining Nittany Lions have stayed put at their respective ranks, including Shayne Van Ness, Mitchell Mesenbrink, Levi Haines, and Josh Barr taking the top spots. Rocco Welsh sits at No. 2 at 184 pounds, while Luke Lilledahl stays at No. 3 in the 125-pound class. Cole Mirasola remains at No. 11 at heavyweight.
