Relive Onward State’s Road Trip To East Lansing

East Lansing, you were good to us.
Penn State traveled to Michigan State on Saturday for an away game, and, per usual, Onward State’s football beat went north to cover the Nittany Lions. Let’s take a look back at our trip to East Lansing, Michigan.
Friday
The beat hit the road around noon, embarking on our seven-hour drive to Michigan. The drive started fairly mellow, with Ericka and me in the front seats and the boys in the back. I drove and felt like a babysitter driving kids to daycare, with the boys giggling behind me. To pass the time, Collin whipped up this beautiful graphic.

Despite my own hopes and dreams, we unfortunately couldn’t avoid the worst state ever. Oscar was happy we passed through Akron again, though. Shoutout LeBron.
After passing through Ohio, we all started to get a little delusional in the car. Cooper shared some interesting thoughts with ideas spanning from a caterpillar feeling a release after hatching from its cocoon to questioning whether a tiger would react to a laser pointer the same way a cat does. I’m still unsure about answers for both of those, but it made for some interesting conversations.
We made it to Michigan around 5:30 p.m. and witnessed a beautiful sunset.
After arriving at our Red Roof Inn in East Lansing, we were all starving, so we took an Uber downtown and ended up at a restaurant called HopCat.
After dinner, we decided to go to a bar called Rick’s. Ericka (Ricky) was ready to take over the trap.
We weren’t really expecting much from this place, but once we got inside, we were pleasantly surprised. It was much larger than we thought, with numerous tables, a dance floor, and three bars. We played card games, people watched, and met some Penn State alumni. I had a dance battle with one of the alums and won (obviously).

After a long night, we headed back to our hotel to get some rest before the game.
Saturday
Gameday.
We woke up Saturday morning ready to rumble. As someone who is always concerned about their next meal, I already had a breakfast place picked out for us to fuel up at before heading to the stadium.
We headed to The Morning Post for some food and to quote Collin, “I think we found the perfect spot.”

We headed over to Spartan Stadium after breakfast and were greeted by the Michigan State marching band practicing shirts vs. skins style. Not sure what was going on there.
After we parked, we stumbled upon a moon-bounce race course. Let’s just say a time was had.
We made it into the stadium around noon and were ready for kickoff.

The Nittany Lions brought home the Land Grant Trophy, securing a 28-10 win over the Spartans.

After getting out of the stadium around 9 p.m., the beat decided to head back to our hotel to reflect on the win and get some shut-eye.
Sunday
We packed up Sunday morning and left East Lansing around 10 a.m. Before leaving, I managed to walk headfirst into an industrial metal AC unit.
I drove us all back to State College, questioning if I was concussed, and after a trip to Penn Highlands Hospital, I was, in fact, concussed. Penn Highlands, if you see this, you guys were great.
That’s all from us this week, folks.
