Matt Campbell Thanks Iowa State With Entire Page In Des Moines Register

Matt Campbell was officially introduced to Penn State fans as the Nittany Lions’ next head coach on December 8. Three days later, though, the former Iowa State man made sure to show his gratitude for his past school, buying an entire page in the Des Moines Register.

“Words will never be able to properly express my emotions as we embark on this new journey, and the gratitude our family feels for our time in Ames,” Campbell wrote.

The 46-year-old has been nothing but appreciative of the opportunities the Cyclones gave him over the past 10 years, and got emotional during his first press conference as a Nittany Lion.

“I also want to thank the great community and the alumni base, and the former players who embraced us at Iowa State,” Campbell said in his introductory press conference on Monday. “They made it bigger than just winning football games. They made it about, man, serving a community; the impact of making a difference every step of the way.”

The Des Moines Register is Iowa’s major daily newspaper, covering all things Des Moines and Iowa. The newspaper is a direct descendant of the first newspaper in Iowa, the Iowa Star.
