[Live Blog] Living In Willard Building For 24 Hours

Finals week is back, folks.
Over the years, during this time of year, staffers have spent 24 hours at the library, HUB, and, most recently, the Arboretum to get locked in for finals while sharing their experiences.
Due to five academic buildings remaining open 24/7 during finals week, such as the Willard Building, I decided to take on the challenge of spending 24 hours at Willard to complete my final project before heading home for winter break.
Follow along for my 24-hour adventure through the Willard Building.

2:55 p.m.: I’m finally here at Willard. Took longer than I anticipated to find a room, but I finally found one on the ground floor, so it’s time to work on my final project while watching some football.
3:06 p.m.: There’s nothing better than watching football in a classroom while working on my final project during fantasy football playoff season (God bless NFL RedZone).

3:31 p.m.: There are a lot of people here at Willard. Two people walked into the room without noticing I was here. Also, just had my first visitor. Say hello to Mr. Jack Anderson-Jussen!

5 p.m.: It’s been about two hours since I got here, and I have made minimal progress with my final project. Football has been more entertaining than I expected (still can’t believe that the Kansas City Chiefs have been officially eliminated).
5:30 p.m.: Just got notified by my friend Michael Siroty that the undefeated No. 1 Nebraska women’s volleyball team is going to the fifth set against No. 3-seed Texas A&M in the NCAA Elite Eight. So, for that reason, I’m taking a break from football and now watching this entertaining volleyball match on ABC.
5:43 p.m.: Folks, tune into ABC right now. This match is really entertaining, and we could potentially witness history (Go Texas A&M!).
5:50 p.m.: Wow, the Aggies pulled off one of the greatest upsets in women’s volleyball history! Alright, enough with that, and time to lock in on my final project.
7:11 p.m.: Finally, I have made significant progress on my final project. Also, Brandon Hurley was kind enough to come visit me despite how cold it is outside.
7:12 p.m.: Just a minute after he got here, Jack is back, folks! These visits are really helping me a lot. Thankfully, I’m missing out on the brutal cold weather outside right now.

8:21 p.m.: Brandon is still here, and we’ve been having a lot of fun. Now, it’s time to watch the Cowboys game. Go Cowboys!
8:37 p.m.: Okay, Brandon has left, so I’m all alone again. Good thing the Cowboys are winning, and now, I can keep working on my final project (hopefully).
9:54 p.m.: It’s halftime of the Cowboys game now, so I’ll eat my dinner (not happy with the scoreline). I only brought snacks because there’s no food here other than the vending machines. I’m going to eat some protein bars and beef jerky along with my water bottle. The water bottle has been a lifesaver for me today.

10:09 p.m.: Just finished my dinner. Time to multitask by finishing watching the Cowboys game and working on my final project. I did make good progress on it during the game.
10:58 p.m.: I just got an unexpected visitor, Sean Regenye. Just like me, he’s been at Willard working on his final project. He’s been here since 7 p.m., but unlike me, he finished his project. (P.S.- I’m going to be mad if the Cowboys lose to J.J. McCarthy.)
11:06 p.m.: Sean just went home because he’s hungry. Still watching the Cowboys game right now. It’s been about eight hours since I got here, and I can admit that I’m getting exhausted.
11:29 p.m.: Cowboys losing to J.J. McCarthy and the Vikings is my sign that maybe it’s time to forget about sports, fully focus on my final project, and relocate. (Congrats, Eagles fans, on breaking the repeat division champs curse.) I need to find where I’m going to sleep tonight.
11:43 p.m.: Moved from the ground floor of Willard to the second floor. It’s very quiet here, which will help me focus fully on my final project before going to sleep. Also, I found the perfect place to sleep, so I should be all set.
11:57 p.m.: The moral support I needed, my friend Justin Salvesen, has arrived. He’s never been on the second floor of Willard, so I just gave him a tour of the Media Center.

12:27 a.m.: Justin has left, so I’m alone again. However, his visit was the support I needed to get me through this as I close in on the 10-hour mark. Fatigue is starting to set in on me, but I would like to keep working on my final project. Let’s see what happens.
12:55 a.m.: I have officially reached the 10-hour mark, and I can tell you that I was able to find the energy I needed to keep working on my final project. There are still some people here, which is kind of crazy considering the time it is. With no football happening, I have finally made a lot of progress on my project.
1:40 a.m.: I’m getting so sleepy right now that I didn’t realize till now that I originally wrote p.m. instead of a.m. after midnight (silly me). The good news is that I’ve made so much progress on my project that I should be able to accomplish my mission of getting it done during this 24-hour adventure. Glasses really do help you focus.
1:49 a.m.: Ok, folks. It’s time for me to get some sleep. Fortunately, I brought a pillow and my Penn State-themed blanket to keep me warm. Hopefully, I don’t feel very cranky when I wake up.

2:08 a.m.: Update: I’m struggling to sleep. There are people still here on the second floor, which is crazy, so I can hear them making noises. Maybe these people want to try to follow in my footsteps. Let’s see if I can get some sleep at some point.
7:51 a.m.: Just woke up to go to the bathroom, and it looks like I’m the only one here. It feels really weird, not going to lie. However, I’m still really tired, so I’ll probably try to get some more rest before people show up.
8:44 a.m.: Good morning, Penn State! I actually slept better than I expected, and ready to keep working on my final project, but first, let’s eat breakfast as I near the finish line. Nearly six hours left. Good luck to everyone who has final exams today!
8:50 a.m.: Surprisingly, I’m still the one here on the second floor as we get closer to 9 a.m. Where are the people at?
9:27 a.m.: Just finished eating breakfast. Time to lock in once again on finishing my final project.
10:03 a.m.: Okay, folks, I can admit that I’m getting very desperate to go home. Hopefully, these last few hours go fast because I still have to do some things at my apartment before I can go home for winter break.
11:10 a.m.: I am almost done with my project, with less than four hours left to go. Good thing I decided to hold off on finishing this till today, because it’s helping me kill time. I’ll probably be done soon, so I have to start thinking about what to do after I’m done. I’m leaning towards watching a movie on my phone.
11:25 a.m.: I just saw some kids with pillows and backpacks. I think it was the same kids that I saw at 2 a.m. I guess I wasn’t the only one who spent the night here in Willard. Respect to them for their grind on studying for their finals.
11:55 a.m.: Okay, folks, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I accomplished my mission: I finished my final project, which means that I finished my second-to-last semester (I feel like an Unc right now). The bad news is that I still have three hours left before I can go home. I can’t wait to get out of here and start packing to go home.
12:01 p.m.: My computer is about to die, so time to find a table to charge it. While it charges, it might be a good idea for me to walk around Willard to loosen up my legs. I’ve only walked 1,481 steps according to my watch.
12:32 p.m.: Just finished my walk around Willard and managed to go from 1,481 steps to 2,969. I legit forgot about the offices that are on the third floor and didn’t know that there was a pantry there. It has been a while since I walked the entire Willard building.
12:55 p.m.: Two hours left. Been keeping myself entertained by scrolling on my phone while listening to music. I can feel the light at the end of the tunnel.
1:12 p.m.: Okay, I got exhausted of scrolling for no reason on my phone. For that reason, I have decided to lock in on some of my on-deck stories that I have to work during winter break. Also, I’m getting hungry, but since I’m almost done here and got tired of eating my snacks, I’m trying to hold my hunger so I can get home and make myself my lunch with the remaining food I have left in my refrigerator.
1:55 p.m.: It’s officially the home stretch, folks. One more hour remaining. (I have a bad feeling that this last hour is going to take forever.)
2:01 p.m.: I couldn’t take it anymore with my hunger, so I decided to eat one more protein bar to manage my hunger before going home. Can’t wait to get out of here and drink some coffee because I feel tired right now.
2:15 p.m.: With 40 minutes remaining until I officially completed my 24-hour conquest, I’m going to start packing everything so I’m ready to leave by the time the clock hits 2:55 p.m. Also, since I haven’t been outside for almost 24 hours, I didn’t realize till now that it’s just as cold today as it was yesterday. The walk back to my car will be a fun one in these freezing conditions.
2:25 p.m.: Okay, I just finished packing all of my stuff. To kill off my last minutes here, I’ve decided to take one more walk around Willard before coming back to get my stuff and leaving.
2:39 p.m.: Just did my last walk around Willard, and I went passed the room where I spent the day yesterday watching football and working on my project. Room 64 saved me from having to spend more time looking for a room. Alright, time to walk down to the first floor before heading out.
2:55 p.m.: Alright, folks, my 24 hours at Willard are officially complete. These 24 hours went faster than I originally thought, and it wasn’t as bad as I expected. The visitations from my friends really helped me at times when I felt that I couldn’t do it anymore, and they were enjoyable. In the end, I completed my final project, which was the whole point of these 24 hours, and now I’m ready to go home for winter break. Thank you to everyone who followed along in this 24-hour conquest. It is one that I will always remember. See you next year, Willard, for my last semester. Also, good luck to everyone in their finals this week!
