Penn State Football Hires Jakes Waters As Quarterbacks Coach

Penn State football adds another former Iowa State staffer in Jake Waters, as its next quarterbacks coach, per Waters’ Twitter bio. Waters had the same role in Ames, Iowa.
Waters worked as the quarterbacks coach for Campbell for the past two seasons. Before that, he worked as a senior quality control and offensive assistant for the Cyclones from 2021 to 2023.
Waters began his coaching career in the Hawkeye state with Western Iowa as a Volunteer quarterbacks coach. His first job in FBS was as a grad assistant for Iowa State in 2017. After that, he worked three seasons as the wide receivers coach for UTEP before returning to Ames.
The former Kansas State quarterback helped lead the Cyclones to the program’s best season in 2024, going 11-3. Iowa State’s signal caller that year, Rocco Becht, amassed 3,505 yards and 25 touchdowns, both of which rank second in the school’s season leaders.
Waters was recruited by Bill O’Brien in 2012 and had Penn State in his final list of schools, but he ultimately went with the Wildcats. In the former three-star’s final collegiate season, he threw for 3,501 passing yards, 22 passing touchdowns, seven interceptions, and nine rushing touchdowns.
