Penn State Men’s Hockey To Host Fourth Annual Sled Hockey Classic January 18

For the fourth year in a row, Penn State men’s hockey will face off against the State College Coyotes in a sled hockey classic on Sunday, January 18, at Pegula Ice Arena.

Doors will open at 11 a.m. and will be open to the public. Admission for the scrimmage will be free, but fans are encouraged to donate to the GoFundMe to support Happy Valley Special Hockey’s mission. Last year’s classic was able to raise more than $18k for the cause.

The Happy Valley Special Hockey Association was established just under a decade ago to serve individuals unable to play hockey on organized teams but who can benefit from playing hockey together. Its mission is to provide players with the necessary equipment and support at little financial cost.

Sled hockey was designed to give people with disabilities the opportunity to play hockey. Players use specialized sleds and two shorter sticks with metal picks on the ends, which allows them to push themselves around the ice. The rest of the rules are essentially the same.

The Nittany Lions are currently on their longest break in program history due to the 2026 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and the Spengler Cup, but will be back on January 3 at 7 p.m. at RIT.
