Penn State Alum Opens New State College Coffee Shop Inside Bike Shop

A new coffee spot is in town, but not where you would normally find one.
Spoked Coffee has opened a cart inside Freeze Thaw Cycles, a bike retail outlet selling new and used bicycles, at 1400 W. College Ave.
The cart will feature coffee creations from a variety of roasters across the United States, Spoked Coffee co-founder Drake Hale told the Centre Daily Times.
“The idea is to showcase what each specific roaster can offer as their bread and butter,” Hale said. “Most roasters will have their signature blends, but they’ll also have experimental varieties and more unique offerings on a limited basis.”
According to a menu posted on Instagram, the coffee cart will serve espressos, lattes, americanos, cappuccinos, amongst other options. They also boast homemade syrups in unique flavors such as Mexican vanilla, honey, mocha, and raspberry. Milk options include whole milk and oat milk.
There are also non-coffee drinks on the menu, including but not limited to hot chocolate, black tea, green tea and herbal tea.
Lattes, americanos, and any of the teas can be ordered hot or iced.
Hale said he hopes Spoked Coffee will be a place where those in State College can enjoy the intersection of coffee and bikes. He had previously worked at Rothrock Coffee and Cafe Lemont while studying at Penn State. He now works as a financial administrative assistant for Penn State’s Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics.
Spoked Coffee will launch with hours only on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
