Report: Matt Campbell Retains Special Teams Coordinator Justin Lustig For Same Role

Penn State football is retaining special teams coordinator Justin Lustig under Matt Campbell’s new staff, according to Daniel Gallen of Lions247. Lustig will hold the same position in 2026.

Lustig has been with the Nittany Lions for two full seasons and commanded arguably Penn State’s most consistent group in the special teams. In 2024, Lustig tutored a trio of All-Big Ten recipients in long snapper Tyler Duzansky, kicker Ryan Barker, and kick returner Nick Singleton.

Barker was as reliable as it gets this year for the blue and white. The Landenberg, Pennsylvania, native was 18/19 on field goals this season with a long of 49 yards. First-year punter Gabriel Nwosu was also a strong performer under Lustig’s leadership.

It was initially believed the Erie, Pennsylvania, native would not be retained by Campbell, but the former Iowa State head coach was able to fend off other suitors to keep Lustig in Happy Valley.
