Former Penn State Football Offensive Coordinator Andy Kotelnicki Returning To Kansas

Penn State football offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki is not being retained as part of Matt Campbell’s staff and will return to Kansas as an associate head coach. Penn State hired Iowa State offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser as Kotelnicki’s replacement.

Kotelnicki was only in his second year at Penn State in 2025. He helped Penn State boast a top-30 offense in 2024 en route to a College Football Playoff Semifinal run. However, the Nittany Lions severely regressed in 2025 with continued offensive inconsistency and failing to balance all of Penn State’s transfer additions in the unit.

Kotelnicki spent three years as the offensive coordinator at Kansas before landing the Penn State job. He has served as an offensive coordinator in some capacity since 2006, when he took on the role at his alma mater, Wisconsin-River Falls.

Kotelnicki interviewed and made it into the final round of consideration for the West Virginia head coaching gig as Penn State neared the start of its College Football Playoff run, but ultimately withdrew himself from consideration in lieu of returning to Happy Valley for 2025.

Kotelnicki’s defensive counterpart Jim Knowles also didn’t find a way onto Campbell’s staff, departing from Penn State for the Tennessee defensive coordinator job.
